Privacy Policy

Outsy (outsy.io) helps people find events around the San Francisco Bay Area. Outsy is operated by its founder, an independent owner-operator in California.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

Questions or privacy requests: info.outsy@gmail.com

What we collect

Account information

When you create an Outsy account, we collect your email address and password. Passwords are stored in hashed form, and we cannot view your password.

Your choices and activity

We collect information you provide or generate through your use of Outsy, including:

  • the preferences you select, such as categories, genres, areas, and price;
  • events you save; and
  • whether you have opted in to event alerts or other emails.

We use this information to provide features such as saved events and personalized “For you” recommendations.

Automatic information

When you use Outsy, certain information may be collected automatically, including your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, and information about how you use the site.

Our hosting provider may collect this information in server logs. We also use Google Analytics to understand how people use Outsy, as described below.

Cookies

Outsy uses cookies and similar technologies.

We use a necessary sign-in cookie to keep you logged in. This cookie is generally retained for about 30 days.

We also use Google Analytics cookies to understand how visitors use Outsy and to improve the site. For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, we do not allow Google Analytics to set cookies. We do not use advertising cookies.

Information from third parties

We receive information about events and venues, such as names, dates, times, prices, descriptions, ratings, and other event or venue details, from venues, ticketing platforms, event organizers, other publicly available sources, and Google services.

This information relates to businesses, venues, and events rather than individual Outsy users. We do not use these sources to build profiles about people.

How we use your information

We use personal information to:

  • create and operate your Outsy account;
  • provide saved events and personalized “For you” recommendations;
  • send account-related emails, such as password resets;
  • send event alerts, news, or other optional emails when you have opted in;
  • understand how Outsy is used and improve the site;
  • troubleshoot technical problems;
  • maintain security and prevent fraud, abuse, or unauthorized activity; and
  • comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information or use it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Cookies and analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how people use Outsy. Outside the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, it uses analytics cookies. Inside those regions we turn those cookies off. We have switched off Google’s advertising features, and we do not use advertising cookies.

You can also use the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

We do not currently respond to “Do Not Track” browser signals.

Who we share information with

We use service providers to operate and improve Outsy. These providers process information on our behalf and for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.

These include:

  • Knowi, which provides hosting and database services for Outsy;
  • Resend, which delivers emails such as password resets and optional event alerts; and
  • Google services, including Google Analytics, Google Maps, and the Google Places service.

Google Analytics receives information such as the pages you view, your device and browser type, and your approximate location, to produce usage statistics for us.

Some Google services load only when you use the feature that needs them, and your browser contacts Google directly when they do. If you switch to Map view, Outsy loads Google Maps to display the map. If you open a venue page that shows Google ratings, Outsy loads that venue’s rating and review summary from Google’s Places service. In both cases Google receives your IP address and browser information, such as your browser type, and Google may also use cookies or similar technologies as described in its Privacy Policy. This happens because it is part of showing the map or venue page you asked for. Outsy does not load fonts from Google.

Event images on Outsy load directly from venue, ticketing, and other third-party websites, so those sites can also see your IP address and browser information when you view a page that shows their images.

Google’s use of information is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy.

We may also disclose information when required by law, legal process, or a valid governmental request, or when reasonably necessary to protect Outsy, our users, or others.

Your privacy rights and choices

Account-related emails, such as password-reset messages, may still be sent when necessary to provide the service.

California privacy rights

Depending on whether and how California privacy laws apply to Outsy, California residents may have rights concerning their personal information, including rights to know, delete, correct, or opt out of certain uses or disclosures.

We do not sell personal information or use it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

International data transfers

Outsy and our service providers may process and store information in the United States and other countries.

When personal information is transferred internationally, we rely on legally recognized safeguards where required by applicable law.

How long we keep information

If you delete your account, we generally delete or de-identify your account information, preferences, saved events, and other associated information, subject to information we may need to retain for legal, security, fraud-prevention, dispute-resolution, or legitimate business purposes.

Server logs and other technical information may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary for security, troubleshooting, and operational purposes.

Deleted information may remain in backups for a limited period before those backups are overwritten.

Security

We use reasonable measures designed to protect information we collect, including HTTPS and hashed passwords.

However, no website or method of transmitting or storing information is completely secure. We cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.

Please use a strong, unique password for your Outsy account and do not share it with others.
